He married Aunt Wilma and then volunteered for the service.

The photo on the left is smoke above Hikari, Japan

The hand written note was found on the back of the photo.

The green arrow marks the location of Hikari, Japan

Uncle Ted is in the front row, 4th from the left

Uncle Ted was a gunner on a B-29 Bomber.  That’s him in the gun turret.

You can also see him sitting on a bomb in the photo on the bottom right.

He’s on the far left of the photo

As you can see, the name of his plane was Genie.  There were actually two different planes named Genie.  The first Genie was serial # 42-63455 and the second Genie was serial # 44-61812

Uncle Ted belonged to the 58th bombardment wing, 40th bombardment (bombardier) group, 25th squadron.  All under the oversight of the 20th Bombardment Command.  Activated June 1944 and based on Tinian Island in the Northern Mariana Islands

When Uncle Ted enlisted in the Army, the enlistment was for the duration of the War or other emergency, plus six months, subject to the discretion of the President or otherwise according to law.
