Sandwich, Feb 12, 1887

Dear Cousin Lizzie,

I thought I would write you a few lines to let you know how I am getting along.  Well Lizzie, I intended to write to you before this but I was taken sick about the first of February and I had to go to the sick room and I have been there ever since.

I was not able to write home and I got a letter from home a week ago today and was not able to answer it until this afternoon.  I suppose they will think I am dead at home.  I am almost sure Ma will.  But they will have to stand it a while until they get a letter.  And if they call at the post office they will find one there if it does not get lost and I hope it wont for I want to get one just as bad as they want to get one from me.

Well Lizzie, have you forgotten the last Sunday we were in Dennison.  Yet I have not yet and I think I will not for a while.  I have not had hardly such a lively time since I came back and I am afraid I wont for a while either.

Well June is coming and so is the fourth of July and if I do not have a good time it will be because I do not know how it is done.  I do not think I have forgotten how it is done.  Well we got out here to the College all save and if nothing happens will get back all sound.  Well I suppose Mart is going to school in Coopersville yet.

Well Lizzie, I was not all alone in the sick room.  I was in with Dennis Malone and about eight more boys.  So I was not the only one that the fun.  It was the measles we all had and we all feel kind of glad to get out of there and out around with the other boys.  We are not allowed to go out of doors yet for fear of catching more cold.  Well, I guess I will have to bring my letter to a close hoping to hear from your soon.

I remain Your Loving Cousin

Dennis Golden

Excuse for poor writing

Write soon.

I will send you one of my cards they are not very good but they are as good as I have.
