Grand Rapids June 30 1890 Miss Lizzie Golden Dennison Mich
My Dear Friend, I received your letter Saturday night and was very glad to hear from you. I suppose you had forgotten to write I went home Saturday and stayed over Sunday. I have pretty quiet since I came up here, it has been so long since I have written that I have almost forgotten how to write ( it is getting so dark I can’t see the lines so I will light a lamp) You said you supposed I had a big time here but you are mistaken . I had rather be in C’Ville than here but there is nothing to do there. It has been so hot for the last two weeks I thought I would sweat to death.
I am going to C’Ville Thursday night and stay until next Monday. I hope to see you there the fourth. I have got to play with the Band but I won’t play all the time, if you are there we will take in the dance (that is if you are willing) I suppose they will have a grand time. You asked me if I came down to the school concert. No I did not neither did I tell Cassy I was coming. I could not have got away if I wanted to. Well Lizzie I have written all that is in my mind just now so I will say Good By. (Be sure and take in the P.L. celebration)
As Ever Yours Lester W. Mills 390 First St. Grand Rapids Mich.
**************** “C’Ville”: C’Ville is short for Coopersville
I believe Lester Mills was Lizzie’s boyfriend. ****************
