Grand Rapids, July 15 ’90
Dear Friend Lizzie, I received your letter last night. It came Saturday but I was not here from Saturday morning to Monday night. I went from the shop to the depot Saturday and from the train to the shop Monday morning. I was home all day Sunday.
I was glad to hear that you were not sick after the fourth. I feel first rate myself. Who told you I could not get rested. You say Mary thought I did not act very good natured the fourth. I felt good natured enough and if I didn’t act right I am sorry. I certainly meant all right.
I was over to Griffins Sunday night. That is news to me about Lauty being married. It may be so though. If it is my folks didn’t know anything about it. He wrote that he was coming home this week. He didn’t say anything about anybody else coming with him. I knew he was engaged when I was up there last winter. Don’t say anything about it until we know for sure. He may be home by this time. I haven’t heard anything about it yet.
I am working all alone this weekend. All the rest of the finish had to lay off. You bet I don’t hurt myself. I am going home again next Saturday night. I wish you were there. I get so lonesome Sundays. I don’t know where to put myself. How are you going to Berlin? With team or on the train. I presume I will be home. There is nothing to stay here for Sundays. Well Lizzie, I don’t think of any more so Good By. (write soon) Very Truly Your Friend L.W.
