Friend Lizzie:
As I have lots of time this evening I thought I would answer your letter although there is no news to write. You say you don’t think I get lonesome here where there is so much excitement I can tell you you are very much mistaken. If there is any excitement in this rotten town (Excuse my Language) I fail to see it. I was out to see the Union School building burn down Sunday night. There was a very large crowd out. I saw Maggie Golden over there with some big long fellow. Maggie says she is going to be there for the New Year’s Ball. I don’t know whether I will come home before New Year’s or not. I don’t suppose there will be anything worth coming for Christmas. Is Mary staying with you now. It must be lonesome staying there without her. I suppose Kate is working away all the time. Well Lizzie I guess this is all you will care to read at once so I will close (I can neither write nor think of anything to write tonight) Give my love to the sisters.
As Ever Your Friend Lester Mills
