Being kind of lonesome this evening I thought I would answer your letter. I am sorry to hear you have been sick. If you hadn’t have been, I am afraid you would not have got this letter. I had my mind made up not to write again if you couldn’t get time to write in two or three weeks but you are forgiven now. I suppose you have begun school again now. I wish I was going this winter but I presume you are glad I am not there so you won’t have anybody to bother you evenings when you want to study, but I enjoyed those evenings whether you did or not.
You ought to have been here Monday (Labor Day) there was better calibration than the fourth (that isn’t saying much either). The games were all down to the lake. I was down there all the afternoon and evening.
Tell Mary I enjoy myself hugely at the Heights. I am there just long enough to get in a day’s work. I go right from the car to the shop and right from the shop to the car. Lauty was here Sunday and we got a rig and took in the whole town. He is stuck on the heights. There is lots of fine residences been built there since you were here.
Tell Kate that she wants to think of the absent one digging for gold before she gets very deeply in love with the old man but if she gets him it will save rent. Are you going to occupy the sauce rooms this winter? It seems like a long time since I saw you but I wont be home before the fair now and perhaps not then.
Well my paper is getting short so I will bid you ado for this time. (Write soon)
As Ever, Your Friend Lester W. Mills
