My Dear Friend, I guess you think I am a long time answering your last letter but you will excuse me this time. I guess I’ll try and not let it happen again. Perhaps you know what I have been through since I got your letter. I was home from the twentieth to the twenty ninth of February but I did not see anybody hardly or go anywhere. I called on Kate one evening a few minutes that was the only place I went while I was home. I had a touch of diphtheria myself. Before I came back I was sick three days so I didn’t go out of doors.
I have been having a great time the past week cutting a wisdom tooth the whole side of my face was swollen up like the mumps and pained me all the time. Nevertheless I worked full time. I guess yu think I have said enough about myself.
How do you get along now days. I suppose you are through with school. I would like to see you ever so much but I can’t get away from work a day unless it is absolutely necessary. I am going home next Saturday night to stay over Sunday. I expect they will have a funeral sermon preached for Nera next Sunday. I wish you could be in town that day. I will have to get back here Monday morning and I don’t suppose I can get away from home to come to your house. Ma is so lonesome she will want me to stay right at home while I am there. My paper is getting low so I will have to stop for this time. Hoping to hear from you soon. I am your Sincere Friend Lester Mills
Please excuse mistakes. I am nervous this morning
