My Dearest Friend:

I guess you will think I have forgotten you, but such is not the case.  Have you got over the effects of the celebration yet?  I have been tired ever since.  I am glad the fourth don’t come but once a year.  I suppose you are going to school again at Berlin now.  Has Mart commenced yet?  If he goes it will be nice for you.  You won’t get homesick.

I had all the wedding cake I could eat last night.  There was a lady married up the Heights yesterday afternoon and they called me in after work and treated me to all the good things connected with the wedding but could not kiss the bride as she had gone to Chicago on their wedding trip (too bad wasn’t it).

Have you been to C’Ville since the fourth?  I haven’t heard a word from there since I came back.  It was too bad you couldn’t have stayed there and seen a good balloon ascension.  The first thing I heard when I got back here was what I missed by going away.  Some of my friends had a picnic down to the Lake and they must of missed me terribly.  Don’t you think so?  But I tell you, I wasn’t sorry I came home. (Be it ever so humble, there is no place like home).

Well Lizzie, I cant think of anymore nonsense to write this time so I will bring this to a close.  Please forgive me this time for being so tardy and set me a good example by answering early.

I am your very affectionate friend,

Lester W. Mills
