Miss Lizzie Golden

Dennison

My Dearest Friend I will now answer your letter so you will get tomorrow evening.  How are you getting on?  It seems like a live time since I saw you.  I suppose you are studying hard every day.  You will have so much learning pretty soon that I wont dare speak to you at all.  You are gaining knowledge all the time while I have forgotten all I ever knew (but that wasn’t much).  I am glad Mart is going to school with you so you will have company and besides may be he can kind of keep you straight.

That was very sad about Mr. Grffin drowning wasn’t it!  I couldn’t have been more shocked and surprised if it had been my own father.  He was always a good friend to me.  I was very sorry I couldn’t go over to the funeral but it was so sudden and unexpected. That I couldn’t possibly get away.  It will leave Mrs. G and Cassa in pretty bad shape.

How is the ice cream business progressing?  I suppose Mary has that freezer all to herself through the week.  I’ll bet she sits on it all the time.  I’m sorry I can’t come over there to enjoy it a little but I don’t know when I will get over that way again.  It may be too cold for ice cream when I come.

I went to Barnum’s Show Monday.  I wish you had been along to see the Elephant.  I was somewhat surprised to hear of that wedding you told me of.  Kate must have felt highly honored.  Have they gone to keeping house yet or are they gone on a Wedding tour.  They are the best matched pair I ever saw get together.  I was kind of jealous when I first heard of it.  But I have got reconciled now.  You know I had quite a friendly feeling for Lizzie myself but I was too bashful to make it known so George got the best of me.

Well, my dear, my paper is out and so am I.  So, I will have to close for this time.  Hopping to hear from you soon.  Love to the girls.

As ever,

Let
