The farm that she lived on for most of her married life lies over the rise to the West. Rita could likely see the old place from her window there at Fountain View if it weren't for the interstate overpass and other development that has sprung up over the years.
This silvery haired, sparkly eyed woman of 93 years never was one to need or ask for much; but, always had lots to give. Her fascination with people lets you know that she sure feels just fine about herself too. She is quick to emphasize the good in almost anyone. To criticize others just isn't part of her business at all. When she talks with you, she lets you look right into who she is, where she is coming from, no cover up jobs. And that is the way it has been for almost a century of kindness, generosity and consideration for the other guy. Oh, she has made a few folks tow the line all right; there isn't anybody going to walk over this woman, let me tell you, not for a minute! When she knows what's right and what isn't you'll hear about it, right quick.
Rita has gone on to outlive her husband Lloyd by a few years. They raised up three pretty good kids over there on the old farm. Her children now keep a watchful and caring eye on her, the same as she did for them as young ones.
It isn't often anymore that she leaves that small room of hers down at the end of the hallway. "These old legs" don't get her around the way they did in times past. She does do up a letter or two now and again to those special folks in her life. Visitors are much appreciated when they stop in to be with her. She likes to read too, keep up on things as best she can. An old worn bible rests on a small wooden table within arms reach, one that belonged to her mother. She will tell you that she can read that "good book" as well as ever - and does just that, everyday! |
